After a long winter, they’re easy to miss—but they’re one of the most important signs of the season.

Crocus are often the first flowers to bloom, sometimes pushing up through snow, and they tell us something important:

Spring has officially started underground.

🌱 What’s Happening Right Now

Even though most lawns and gardens still look like they’re waking up, there’s already a lot going on below the surface.

  • Soil temperatures are starting to rise

  • Root systems are becoming active again

  • Turf is beginning its first stage of growth

  • Early bulbs like crocus are taking advantage of the moisture and cooler temperatures

This early window sets the tone for everything that follows.

⏱️ Why Timing Matters

A lot of people wait until their yard is fully green before thinking about it—but by then, you’re already behind.

What you do right now impacts:

  • Lawn thickness later in the season

  • How well your turf recovers from winter damage

  • How your beds fill in as the season progresses

This is the start of the season—not the middle of it.

⚠️ What We See Every Year

One of the most common mistakes is assuming things will just “come back” on their own.

Sometimes they do.

But often, lawns that struggled last year:

  • come back thin

  • develop bare patches

  • or show signs of damage later in the spring

By the time it’s visible, it’s harder to correct.

🌷 A Quick Look at Our Display Beds

Here at the shop, we’re already starting to see the first signs of life.

Just a week ago, everything was still covered in snow. Now, the crocus are beginning to bloom—and over the next few weeks, you’ll see these beds completely transform.

We’ll be sharing that progression as the season unfolds.

💬 Final Thought

These first flowers might be small—but they mark the beginning of everything.

What happens next depends on how the season is handled from here.
